Championship runaway leader Max Verstappen has revealed that he has been struggling with vision problems after his horrific crash with Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix in 2021.

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were locked in a fierce battle during the 2021 F1 season which has produced one of the sport’s best-ever years.

The Briton and the Dutchman were battling it out hard on multiple occasions which resulted in a large number of on-track accidents. The British Grand Prix was one of the races that saw the two rivals come together as they approached the brutally fast Copse corner.

The pair made contact that resulted in Verstappen spinning off and slamming into the tyre barriers at high speed. The Red Bull man could be heard moaning in pain and initially struggling to breathe over the team radio, having suffered a 51G sideways impact.

Although Verstappen did not report about any issues after the incident, he has now revealed that he has been having vision problems since the Silverstone round.

Speaking to Red Bulletin, the reigning champion said: "Since my crash at Silverstone, I had been struggling with vision problems, especially on hilly tracks or circuits with a lot of advertising signs on the side of the track.

Looking back at his victory in the 2021 Austin race which is in his personal list of best wins, he says: "In this race, I fought not only against Lewis, but also against blurred vision.

“It was like driving at 300 km/h in a speedboat. I've never told you this before, but for a few laps it was so bad that I seriously considered pulling the car over."

"The only thing that helped was concentrating on my breathing while Lewis was panting down my neck. This was an important win that I desperately needed in the battle for the championship," said Verstappen.
