Hamilton wants to maintain competitiveness as he opens up on his relationship with Hungary
Following his sensational victory at Silverstone, seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is intent on maintaining his team’s competitiveness at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have endured a tough start to their season. While the Brackley-based outfit has made substantial changes to the concept of its 2024 F1 machine, the team failed to achieve the progress they had hoped for.
However, an upgrade at Imola changed the balance of the car, and the team has managed to bring upgrades to almost every round since then.
The British Grand Prix was expected to highlight the weaknesses of the W15 as it has suffered in high-speed corners in the opening part of the season, but the improvements meant that the car displayed encouraging performance at Silverstone.
George Russell secured his second pole position of 2024, but was forced to retire with a water system issue. However, his team-mate Lewis Hamilton took a sensational victory in the wild race of Silverstone on home turf.
Despite having won 103 races before his latest Silverstone victory, the seven-time world champion acknowledged that his recent results made him think that he "was not good enough".
"It's so tough, I think, for anyone. But I think the important thing is just how you continue to get up and you've got to continue to dig deep even when you feel like you're at the bottom of the barrel.
"I mean, there's definitely been days between 2021 and here where I didn't feel like I was good enough or whether I was going to get back to where I am today.”
“But the important thing is I had great people around me continuing to support me and my team. Every time I turn up and see them putting in the effort that really encouraged me to do the same thing.
"And otherwise, my fans, when I see them around the world, they have been so supportive. So a big, big thank you to everybody back at the factory, everyone here. I love you guys, and God bless you.
When asked about the Hungarian Grand Prix after winning at Silverstone, Hamilton said: "You know I love Hungary.
“So, I definitely am really looking forward to that, to going there, but just also just the trajectory we're on and the fact the car is starting to really, really come alive and feel great.
“And I think the fact that we're able to start to compete with these two here (Verstappen and Norris) is a great, great feeling,” concluded the 104-time Grand Prix winner.
