Leclerc trusts Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur "200 per cent"

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc insists that he trusts the Scuderia's team boss Fred Vasseur "200 per cent", claiming that the Frenchman brought a new mentality to the Italian outfit.

Following the departure of team principal Mattia Binotto, Ferrari appointed Fred Vasseur as his replacement. The Frenchman became the fourth non-Italian and the second Frenchman to head the Scuderia, after Jean Todt.

Vasseur achieved his first win as the Scuderia's team principal when Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz Jr. took victory at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix.

He achieved his first 1-2 in the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, led by Sainz and followed by Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque then secured Ferrari's third win under Vasseur's leadership on home soil in Monte Carlo.

Speaking of Vasseur's contribution to Ferrari's success, Leclerc said that he fully trusts in the Frenchman's approach.

“I’ve always said that I 200 per cent trust Fred. He has brought a new mentality to the team, where he’s taken care of every single individual within the team to try to put people in the best condition possible in order to extract their maximum potential.

"I think this is Fred’s biggest strength, as well as being super good at analysing critical situations,” – Leclerc continued.

Ferrari have endured a drop in performance recently. While the Scuderia enjoyed a fine form at the beginning of the season, they have dropped back behind Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren in the pecking oder in the last races.

The recent lack of pace has been the result of an unsuccessful upgrade package introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix which induced several bouncing in high-speed corners. Leclerc insists that Vasseur's analytical approach will help the team get itself back on the right path.

“It’s very easy sometimes in Formula 1, when things are going very wrong to put everything in the same basket and say, ‘Oh, my God, everything we are doing is bad’.

"However, Fred has a super good analysis on that, to pinpoint and to give the right direction to the team in those critical moments. It’s super important. I’m sure that we’ll see the benefits of it very soon.” – the Monegasque driver concluded.
