With the reconstruction of the brand-new Aston Martin campus nearing its final phases, project manager Guy Austin has revealed that the Silverstone-based team is finalizing the last two buildings of its modern facility.

The first phase of the Aston Martin Campus was completed last July which meant that certain departments have been fully operational since last year's British Grand Prix.

The first of three purpose-built buildings constructed in Silverstone houses the team's growing workforce and facilities. The headquarters covers a space of 37,000m2 (400,000sqft) and is F1's first totally new team base for almost two decades and serves as home to over 700 members of the team.

This first building, which has taken just over 24 months to complete, houses the team's design office, engineering, production, commercial and manufacturing areas.

Work progresses apace on the AMR Technology Campus as the Silverstone-based team pushed on with the construction of Buildings Two and Three.

The team has noted that 'Buildings Two and Three are now very close to being fully operational. Building Two accommodates a new driver simulator, a restaurant, a gym, and a vast event space. Whereas Building Three will house our new wind tunnel and our model shops, providing an area for our engineers and designers to continue developing our cars."

Expanding on the current state of the reconstruction process, project manager Guy Austin explains the function of the second and third building of the new campus.

"The bridge between buildings one and two, it's really exciting actually, because you know it's like there are several milestones on the way in any project on and this was a big one. We were hoping to get the bridge in one piece and do the weathering and the roofing and stuff.

"On the first floor of Building 2, there'll be a staircase going downstairs. [There] is a big open office for Aston Martin performance technologies, and we're going to have a technology showcase for the team where we can demonstrate to our customers and other people with an interest of what our capabilities are in-house in terms of manufacturing, whether it be carbon fibre products, whether it be machining or whatever.

There will be an event space as well where "people could hold events, launches, so we've got a big door over here to get cars in and out, obviously an escape door and everything orientates in this room over to the corner where there's a hole in the wall. We've got a true curved screen in the corner and a flat screen either side 14 metres from one end to the other and the full height of the room.

Moreover, Building 2 will feature a "creative studio where the guys will do the filming, put the footage together in the future so we can do everything in house rather than go and have to use external resources.

"Really important part of this building is the new driver simulator. Lots of excitement around this, and obviously with this we have a control room, the same as our mission control room in building one and our control room in building three.

There is a "driver's breakout room where they have their own shower, their own changing facilities where they can make a cup of tea or whatever it is they drink and a briefing debriefing area and somewhere where they can relax.

There will be a dining area for the staff, and until it is finalized, team members can eat in a temporary facility which takes up of a big car park. The dining area will feature a big "window which brings so much light into this space outside."

With the dining area featuring a "a sort of covered loggia", people will be able to eat outside where benches and chairs will be placed.

Next to the dining area, there will be a fitness center. It will feature a treatment room and also a fitness studio where Aston Martin will be "running spinning classes, yoga classes all those things."

"Back in the old days, Formula 1 was very much a European series now as you're aware from watching the television, it's a global series and we fly away probably more than we use our race trucks and so this area is actually really important to be able to store the flyaway kit which is aircraft containers.

"On my left we have a beautifully concrete pit where we're going to have a lift, and when we're flying away or we're coming back from flyaway races with the flyaway kit, we reverse a truck up to that.

"Even if they're full of stuff they can just push the containers around on the floor and get them into wherever they need them and make maximum use of the space."

The all-new Building 3 will house the wind tunnel. While most of the tools have already arrived at the Aston Martin Technology Campus, the building is still being built, but as soon as it gets ready, the team will be able to establish the wind tunnel quickly.

"In Building 3, and here we are on the first floor of that building so these are our model shops, the raw components for our wind tunnel model come in here.

"We're ready to move in here so all of our tool cabinets are commissioned, our compressed air vacuum, our power, everything's commissioned in here ready for us to move in," concluded Austin.
