Piastri secured his maiden F1 victory with a broken rib
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has revealed that he had claimed his maiden F1 victory with a broken rib, having been racing with a serious injury in Budapest and at Spa.
Completing his second season at the pinnacle of motorsport, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri claimed his maiden F1 victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Following the Budapest race, the Australian, who is managed by former F1 driver Mark Webber, went on to claim third place at the next round at Spa which became a second spot after the disqualification of race winner George Russell.
The 23-year-old revealed earlier that he would spend the three-week summer break withhis girlfriend who has just graduated. The Melbourne-born driver has now shared a post on his Instagram account, revealing that he has been nursing a serious rib injury since the British Grand Prix.
Along with a selection of images from the opening phase of the season, Piastri captioned his post: “First part of the season done. First GP victory. First broken bone. Rib’s enjoying the break.”
An image shared by the McLaren driver displays an ultrasound scan that reveals a fracture to his sixth rib. The date on the ultrasound scan suggests that the investigation was carried out on the Monday following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
