“Verstappen fights for his life on the track," insists Bortoleto

McLaren’s junior driver Gabriel Bortoleto praises reigning world champion Max Verstappen, claiming that the Dutchman “fights for his life on the track.”

Expanding on the current pecking order, Bortoleto claims that McLaren are currently ahead of the reigning champion team Red Bull.

“Red Bull is a bit behind us and doesn't have as fast a car as McLaren,” noted the F2 driver.

Despite Red Bull’s dominant form in the early stages of the season, the Austro-British outfit has been challenged by McLaren and Mercedes recently. Moreover, the team’s Mexican racer Sergio Perez has been unable to get close to Verstappen in recent months.

Bortoleto noted that it is Verstappen who has made the difference recently, having overcome his RB20’s weaknesses compared to the ever-improving cars of his rivals.

“Without a doubt [Verstappen makes the difference]. It has been like that for a while. He makes it seem like it's all Perez's fault, but it is not.

“I would say that Max [Verstappen] is the one who makes the difference. His qualifying laps are at the highest level. Other drivers can reach that level too, but he is the one who always delivers the maximum potential of his car.

“Even in the battles during the races, he fights for his life on the track. That is a huge quality that has allowed him to win a lot of titles so far."

Bortoleto explained thar Verstappen’s aggressive racing style has contributed to his titles, praising the Dutchman for taking risks during his on-track battles.

"Verstappen fights for his life on the track. I do believe McLaren is the better team, but in all the battles Verstappen had with Lando [Norris], he prevailed because he is more aggressive and takes more risks."
