Mercedes set to run one-off green and black Singapore livery
Mercedes have announced that they will run a special one-off livery around the streets of Marina Bay, having designed a one-off colour scheme in collaboration with its title partner Petronas.
PETRONAS’ iconic emerald green will replace the majority of the silver on the front wing and sidepods of the W15, with the team noting that the new livery "will no doubt help make an already-vibrant race under the lights even more dynamic."
Commenting on the new livery, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said: “Our partnership with PETRONAS is our longest standing and still going strong, and for any company to reach its 50th anniversary is an incredible milestone,” said Toto.
“This livery is therefore not only a celebration of their 50th anniversary, but a reflection of PETRONAS’ importance in our team’s story and honours our journey together,” said Toto.
The Brackley-based outfit chose to run the special livery at the Singapore Grand Prix because Petronas' headquarters is situated in Kuala Lumpur in neighbouring Malaysia.
Founded in 1974, PETRONAS has grown into one of the world’s leading energy and solutions company and "has worked hand in hand with our team to develop performance on and off track since 2010."
The celebrations won’t just stay in Singapore, asToto Wolff, Lewis Hamilton, and George Russell will travel to Kuala Lumpur after the Grand Prix on Sunday to continue the festivities into next week.
Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton commented: “The livery looks incredible. I can’t wait to see it on the car in the garage and then to get behind-the-wheel on Friday,” said Lewis.
“It’s a privilege to celebrate this milestone, and our journey together, at such an important race.”
His team-mate George Russell noted: “The design looks brilliant and is a fantastic tribute to such a milestone achievement. It is great to be able to recognise the importance of our relationship at the race closest to their home.”
