Haas confirms that Ferrari set certain requirements ahead of its deal with Toyota
Following the announcement of the partnership between Toyota and Haas, the American outfit's team boss Ayao Komatsu has revealed that Ferrari set specific conditions that had to be met before the agreement was signed.
Last week saw Haas confirm that it will enter into a collaborative relationship with Toyota Gazoo Racing, the motorsport competition and research and development division of Japanese automotive manufacturer.
Under the new multi-year agreement both parties will share expertise and knowledge, as well as resources – with Toyota providing design, technical and manufacturing services, while Haas will offer technical expertise and commercial benefits in return.
Toyota will provide design, technical and manufacturing services to Haas, while Haas will offer technical expertise and commercial benefits in return, with the American team noting that "with an objective to advance MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s development and competitive element within Formula 1, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will further develop its own knowledge and skills in a variety of areas through its involvement with the team competing at the leading edge of global motorsport."
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has now revealed that the American outfit's engine manufacturer Ferrari had set specific conditions that had to be met before agreeing to the new Haas-Toyota partnership.
“The Ferrari-Haas relationship is the foundation, so I went in with a complete mindset that they need to really understand this one,” Komatsu stated.
He continued: “If they felt that this Toyota-Haas alliance would be any threat to them, that’s not going to work.”
“Ferrari sent certain requirements where I had to guarantee them this and this and this. That’s what we were going to do anyway, so it was pretty straightforward and very collaborative from all sides.”
Komatsu has confirmed that Haas will continue to use Ferrari’s wind tunnel in Maranello and maintain their gearbox supply arrangement , while also upholding their chassis partnership with Dallara.
“The Ferrari-Haas partnership is the foundation, and it’s always going to be the foundation. What we have with Ferrari, what we get from Ferrari is amazing. That’s the foundation of the Haas F1 team,” Komatsu emphasized.
