Alonso attempts to run in FP2 despite illness
Ahead of his400th F1 race, Aston Martin has confirmed that Fernando Alonso will miss his media day obligations at the Mexican Grand Prix through illness.
The two-time F1 world champion was set to miss the opening practice, with Aston Martin's reserve driver Felipe Drugovich due to drive his car as part of the rule that requires teams to run a young driver in the first free practice session two times during the season.
A team statement from Aston Martin read: "Fernando Alonso is feeling unwell and will therefore not attend media day at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
"Fernando is focused on feeling 100% for Friday and his planned return to the AMR24 for Free Practice 2," the Silverstone-based outfit noted.
