Red Bull captures special footage in South Africa with David Coulthard
Red Bull returned to South Africa to capture a short film at the Kyalami circuit in Johannesburg that has hosted the South African Grand Prix twenty times.
Amid rumours that Formula One might return to Africa in the near future, Red Bull made its appearance at the historic Kyalami Circuit in Johannesburg, with former David Coulthard getting behind the wheel of a former Red Bull F1 car.
The Milton Keynes-based outfit used its 2011 double-title winning car, the RB7, around the Kyalami Circuit as it roared along the The Kink into Crowthorne Corner. The short film captured all the epic sights and sounds of the RB7 stampeding through the former season-opening circuit.
David Coulthard, who is a former Red Bull driver and now a Red Bull ambassador, was joined by South African Car Spinner and Red Bull athlete, Samkeliso “SamSam” Thubane, who "brought his remarkable talent and unique flair to the shoot, showcasing the passion and potential of South Africa’s motorsport scene on the global stage."
Set against the backdrop of Africa’s most iconic racetrack, the content provides a cinematic glimpse into what F1’s future on the continent could like were it to return home to South Africa.
Commenting on the unique opportunity, Coulthard said: “Driving the RB7 here at Kyalami was unforgettable, with the energy of the South African people and Kyalami’s world-class track, it’s clear the country is ready to rejoin the F1 calendar.”
