Fast facts from the Las Vegas Grand Prix
Mercedes might have clinched a double victory for the first time since the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, but Max Verstappen stole the show by securing his fourth F1 Drivers' Championship title with two more race left to complete this year.
Last weekend's Las Vegas Grand Prix saw George Russell claim his third F1 win from 126 Grand Prix starts, his second of the season after the first in Spielberg. The Briton scored his first win back in 2022 at Sao Paulo when he headed a Mercedes one-two. In fact, he crossed the finish line first another time when he won at Spa this season, but he was stripped of that victory after his car was found underweight during the post-race inspection.
Mercedes topped every session last weekend on the way to their 60th one-two finish, the last one dating back to Brazil two years ago, again with Russell winning from Hamilton. Mercedes failed to win a single race last season, but they have scored four victories so far this year, with both Rueell and Hamilton having been victories twice apiece.
With four titles, Max Verstappen now joins, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost in fourth place on the all-time championship winners list, which is headed by Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher on seven titles apiece, followed by Juan-Manuel Fangio on five.
Strangely, this is the second time Verstappen has won the title on a Saturday, having secured his third F1 drivers' title last year after the Sprint race in Lusail.
It is Red Bull’s eighth drivers’ title, all under the leadership of Christian Horner, in charge since its maiden season in 2005. The team is fourth in this particular category behind Ferrari (15), McLaren (12) and Mercedes (9).
