Familiar territory for Kubica

In each of the three previous Grands Prix, Robert Kubica has had to cope with 'virgin soil'. The forthcoming race weekend at Imola will be the first time the young Pole will have the chance of supporting the BMW Sauber F1 Team at a circuit he already knows.

"Imola is one of my favourite tracks in Europe," says Robert Kubica. "I hope I will help the team to get as much data as possible from the Friday pre-testing and I hope to do a good job."

In 2001 and 2002, Robert contested the Italian Formula Renault Championship thus gathering sufficient experience on Italy's circuits. In 2002, he even clinched a win at Imola. Furthermore, the young gun resided in Italy for five years. "It is the first time I shall be with the team on a circuit I know," Robert reveals.

The circuit, located close to Bologna, differs form the previous three venues of the 2006 Formula One season. "Imola is an old-style circuit with all the kerbs. Bahrain and Malaysia are very flat with no kerbs," explains Kubica. Obviously, the drivers have to adapt their style of driving to this challenge. "At Imola, you have to jump over the chicane."

Robert knows the characteristics of the 4,933 kilometre 'Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari', still, he can't wait for the San Marino Grand Prix. "It is something different but I like all the types of track."
