Cadillac thrilled to cooperate with Ferrari in the first years
The team boss of the future Cadillac F1 outfit Graeme Lowdon explained that the American firm has full trust in the power unit and gearbox of its future engine supplier Ferrari.
General Motors and TWG Global have recently confirmed that they have reached an agreement in principle with Formula 1 to bring a Cadillac team to the series in 2026.
In addition, the US car giant is also launching an F1 power unit that will put the Cadillac Formula 1 Team on the path to being a “full works” team — building its own F1 vehicles and power units — by the end of the decade.
However, the new outfit that will be the first new team to join F1 since 2016 and the eleventh team on the grid, will be powered by Ferrari, with the Italian manacturer set to supply Cadillac not just with its power units, but with gearboxes as well.
Former Marussia and Virgin Racing boss Graeme Lowdon, who has been recently announced as team principal of the new Cadillac team, reckoned that the new outfit has full trust in Ferrari's power units.
Speaking about the Ferrari deal, Lowdon said: “We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies.
“Choosing the right power unit partner is crucial, and we trust in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and the exceptional capabilities of their people.”
With the sport set to introduce an all-new chassis and power unit in 2026, teams face a huge challenge next season to prepare themselves for the never-experienced technical overhaul. Alongside Ferrari and General Motors, Mercedes, Honda, Audi and Red Bull Powertrains-Ford are signed up for the new generation of F1 engines.
