Modernisation of Imola

The 'Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari' in Imola is scheduled to undergo a fundamental modernisation. More than anything else, the aim is to introduce better overtaking possibilities to the track. Based on a concept by Formula One track designer Hermann Tilke, the relocation of the pit lane, as well as several other modifications to the layout of the traditional venue of the Grand Prix of San Marino are planned.

The overall costs of the track modernisation are estimated at ten million Euros, part of which the Italian government has agreed to cover.

Frederico Bendinelli, president of 'Sagis', the company that owns the race track, is confident that the intended modifications to the 'Autodromo' will enable more exciting races: "I hope Herman Tilke's project, which includes a long straight between Rivazza and Tamburello, can improve the situation," Bendinelli said, "but I would like to restore the Villeneuve turn to what it once was, even though this would need an increase of runoff areas at Tosa. I can only promise that we'll discuss it with Tilke and with the FIA technical delegate, Charlie Withing, to find a solution."
