Four in a row boys! - Alonso
The Spanish World Champion, Fernando Alonso, was the fastest man on track this afternoon in the British Grand Prix qualifying session and showed he is aiming for the win tomorrow. It would be a great gift for the Renault team that celebrates its 200th Grand Prix.
"In my penultimate fast lap, I made a small mistake and the team told me on the radio that my time was close to Michael. I thought I had lost the pole. However, there was enough time left to put on another new set of tyres and try again. This time, there was no mistake and I got in front. Four pole in a row is fantastic, and shows the team is not relaxing. We are still being aggressive."
Yesterday, you were no happy with the car. Did it improve?"Not really. The track conditions are difficult for everybody I think. The balance was still not perfect – I was lacking grip in the quick corners. There was more grip in qualifying, and the balance had improved. We changed the set-up a little bit before the session to correct the inconsistency in the quick corners."
How will the race go then?"It will be interesting to see what happens on the long runs. Nobody has done more than 5 or 6 laps in a row this weekend, so there may be some surprises with the tyres. I am very confident, and feel we have made a good choice. We will also see what the fuel loads are, but I was fastest in nearly every session: it shows the car is competitive."
So you’re confident?"It will be a difficult race, but we will be fighting for the win. That’s for sure."
