Confident for the race - Alonso
The Spanish World Champion, Fernando Alonso, will not start from pole - but expects to be among the leaders tomorrow. Alonso qualified 3rd and is behind Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa. Here follows the interview with Alonso.
"Maybe! Like in Indianapolis, we tried to get ahead everybody during the final part of qualifying se we could have a clear track and gain a small advantage. I got the better of Michael when the lights went green, then he overtook me under braking for the hairpin. So I knuckled down and got back ahead a little later. It was fun!"
You will start from third tomorrow. Is that a good position?"I believe so. It is important for me to be among the top cars in qualifying. I had a bad weekend in Indy but things are back to normal here. So I am feeling confident for the race. I did my best, and we knew Ferrari would be quick over a single lap."
How was the R26 handling today?"The balance was OK. We didn't change the set-up much from yesterday, but the grip changes a lot on this track and the rain yesterday evening didn't help things by washing the rubber away! The temperature also changes things a lot: this morning, when the track was 47°C, Michelin had the advantage; then this afternoon with 54°C Bridgestone had the upper hand. We will need to bear that in mind tomorrow."
