Spa to return to F1 calendar
Spa Francorchamps looks certain to return to the formula one calendar next season. After the race's promoter went broke, the historic event fell off Bernie Ecclestone's 2006 calendar because important track renovations could not be completed.
The local Walloon government is now in charge, and has appointed a big-hitter - former vice-president of the European Commission, Etienne Davignon, 73 - to run the new company in charge, called 'Newco'. Walloon minister-president Elio di Rupo, meanwhile, told La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper that Bernie Ecclestone will indeed restore the race's spot on the calendar, pending the circuit modifications.
