We should be very hopeful - Schumi
Michael Schumacher and the Scuderia Ferrari have two weeks of testing behind them and will leave for Asia this evening. The final phase of the championship is about to unfold. The next two races will be held at Shanghai and Suzuka with Sao Paolo the setting for the final act of the season.
"We have worked hard", declared a satisfied Schumi. "I think that we can be hopeful. We have every chance of taking the title though, in my opinion, it will be tough. We should not underestimate Renault and will be focusing solely on our strengths. We will be going all out in the final races and we will see what the season has in store for us.
Having said this, I have to repeat that the squad and I think we have a good chance, above all in the Constructors' championship where we are in a good position. Felipe's input has proved decisive here, especially in the last three races".
Michael has never truly shone at the Grand Prix of China. "It is true that this race has never gone particularly well. However, Rubens won the first ever race and this means that our car should do well", declared the record breaking champion. "I am sure things will go well this time. As I have already said, it will not be easy but it will be exciting and unpredictable until the end. I am pleased that we have it all to play for in the last few races. I feel that I can make up the two point gap".
Are you going into the race with any regrets at having announced your retirement? "No", replied Michael calmly. "I thought over the decision for a long time. I spoke to those close to me and I was not pushed into deciding. I can only state once again that any talk of Ferrari encouraging me to retire is plain silly. However, these things are not important. I am happy with the decision I made and, as I said at Monza, I would rather not think about it and concentrate 100% on the title race instead. This is currently the only thing that concerns me and it will stay this way until after the season is over".
