Renault proud of Laureus nomination
Billed as the premier global sports awards, the Laureus World Sports Awards honour the greatest sportsmen, women and teams across all sports each year. Nominees are submitted by a selection panel of 120 journalists around the world, and the winners of the award will subsequently be voted by the ultimate sporting jury – 43 of the world’s most legendary sportsmen and women.
After winning the World Team of the Year award twelve months ago in recognition of double championship victory in 2005, the ING Renault F1 Team has once again been nominated in the category following its second consecutive Formula 1 constructors’ world championship.
The Awards ceremony will be held in Barcelona on 2 April 2007, and ING Renault F1 Team Managing Director Flavio Briatore acknowledged the prestige of a second-consecutive nomination:
"The ING Renault F1 Team is delighted to be nominated in the category of World Team of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards. After winning the award for our achievements in 2005, we are honoured to be nominated once again alongside some formidable sporting teams and achievements. It goes without saying that everybody in the team remains extremely proud of what we achieved in 2006, which was an historic season for Renault and for Formula 1. But as always, there is no time for resting on our laurels, and our focus is now firmly on preparing as well as possible for the coming season."
