Heidfeld looking forward to Malaysia
The Malaysian Grand Prix is considered to be the hottest race on the Formula One calendar, and therefore is a real test of strenght for man and machine. BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld, who is already looking forward to the trip to South-East Asia, speaks about the climate conditions and the surroundings of the second race of the season.
Based on its equatorial location, the climate in Malaysia is tropical. Rain showers must be anticipated at any time. Therefore, the weather plays a more important role for the drivers at the 'Sepang International Circuit' than usual. Heidfeld, who is regarded as an excellent driver in the wet, comments: "Heat and high humidity make this a particularly strenuous Grand Prix. So far, I have never had a problem with that. I don't mind tropical rain either, generally speaking I like to drive on a wet track."
The Malaysian GP is not only a special event for the BMW Sauber F1 Team because of the weather: the main headquarters of the premium partner Petronas are located in the center of the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, where the famous 'Twin Towers' dominate the skyline of the Asian metropolis. The second Grand Prix of the year is therefore considered to be one of the home races of the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Last year, the team from Munich and Hinwil received a euphoric welcome. "We have conducted a lot of events toghether with Petronas in the past and I have also spend holidays in Malaysia," says Nick. "Therefore, I know my way around to a certain degree. I am looking forward to returning to the country."
