The BMW motorhome, a comfy living room at the track
In addition to the Pit Lane Park, there's something else celebrating its 2007 European season premiere next weekend: the Spanish Grand Prix will be the first race of the year the BMW Sauber F1 Team will attend with its motorhome. Here, we provide you with detailed information on the hospitality and office areas of the Munich and Hinwil based squad.
A day at the racetrack is exciting and exhausting in equal measure. To have the chance of wining, dining and relaxing in a comfortable atmosphere once the work is done, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers and team members take full advantage of the motorhome. At 14 metres in length, 16.5 metres wide and 8 metres high, it offers enough space for up to 80 persons to be treated simultaneously, at its tables and 16-metre bar.
It is equipped with showers and toilets as well as numerous plasma flat screens displaying all the latest information. More than 40 kilometres of cable are necessary for the power and network supply to the motorhome which represents the work place for 20 team-members.
Transport the motorhome equipment to the 'Circuit de Catalunya', venue of the fourth round of the season, is a truly large-scale operation which requires more than ten trucks. Upon arrival at the Mediterranean metropolis assembly gets underway. As is the case with the BMW Sauber F1 Team pit-crew, every move must be perfect in order to turn the facility into a comfy 'living room' for all the team-members. When the assembly is complete, a tense quiet fills the motorhome for a short period of time - until the engines start roaring into life for the Spanish GP's first free practice session.
