Incidentful first day at Monaco
There were not only mechanical problems on the first day at Monaco, but also a lot of crashes. During the first two free practice session, seven drivers damaged their cars as they made contact with the wall.
During the first free practice session, Giancarlo Fisichella damaged his car as he had a small crash at Ste Dévote. The Renault F1 Team mechanics had to swap his chassis over during lunch time. Not only Fisichella but also Mark Webber came in contact with the wall at Ste Dévote. The Australian was lucky as he only had a damaged rim.
Toyota's Ralf Schumacher caught the kerb quite hard and crashed into the tyre barrier this afternoon. David Coulthard also damaged his car during the second practice session as he came in contact with the wall at Loews Corner. He damaged his rear wing and the floor. Anthony Davidson was also one of the victims this afternoon as he finished his day by kissing the barrier at Turn One.
The biggest victims of the day were rookie drivers Adrian Sutil and Lewis Hamilton. Sutil couldn't find the right balance in the second session and went into the barrier at Portier. He was uninjured but his car was recovered and brought back to the garage were the Spyker mechanics try to repair it.
Everybody in Monaco was talking about the crash of the leader in the Championship, Lewis Hamilton. The Briton made a mistake at Ste Dévote and crashed into the tyre wall. In Monaco there is no room for a small mistake!
