We’ll be in the fight - Fisico
The Italian ING Renault F1 Team driver, Giancarlo Fisichella, didn’t feel as comfortable at the Indianapolis Speedway, the venue of the US Grand Prix, as last week in Canada, but he’s staying positive.
"Yes, I think the performance of the two tyres is quite close, which we knew already. Unfortunately, I had some traffic on my last quick lap with the soft compound, and couldn’t improve my time by very much. Aside from that, I think the tyres are quite close, the softer ones are very consistent and that’s promising. We have a lot of data to analyse tonight. We are still behind Ferrari, McLaren and BMW, but we seem quicker than the rest."
Could different teams make different tyre choices?"Yes, why not, there are some differences in how the tyres are behaving. Some people prefer the hard compound, others the soft…"
The gaps in qualifying are always very close. We saw 5 cars in one tenth of a second today. What do you expect tomorrow?"We have seen in the past that the gaps are very tight here. That makes it even more important to find the limit on your qualifying lap, to not go over it… and to have the right strategy in qualifying. It won’t be easy."
You made progress in Monaco and Canada. Are you seeing it reflected here?"Yes. We are still behind McLaren and Ferrari, and maybe BMW. To be honest, the car felt better to me in Canada, but we think some of the other teams may have been running with less fuel. The car is running well, and we’ll be in the fight!"
