Logistic challenge of back-to-back races

For the second consecutive time, the 2007 Formula One calendar features two races - the French and British Grands Prix -within a week. Consequently, the race against time will begin long before the start of the race weekend.

Back-to-back GPs represent an extraordinary challenge, and not only for the Formula One drivers. Such a tight schedule results in a extreme challenge for the BMW Sauber F1 Team's logistics department.

After all, cars, engines, wheels, spare parts, tools, more than 50 computers, 100 radio sets as well as all the pit equipment have to be transported from one venue to the other in a very short space of time.

"It is an incredible effort and one that is very hard to appreciate from the outside," admitted Nick Heidfeld, as he praised the crew responsible for ensuring the racing team enjoys perfect working conditions even in the farthest flung places.

Team Manager Beat Zehnder adds: "It's a huge task because you have to work for two weeks non-stop and have to travel quite long distances in between. Nevertheless, you still have to continue in the normal way preparing for a race."
