Reap the fruits of our approach - White

The ING Renault F1 Team’s director of engineering, Rob White, is satisfied with the team’s performance in qualifying. The team had their best qualifying result of the season so far and this on home soil.

Rob, what do you think of the team’s performance in qualifying?

"I’m satisfied. So far the weekend’s been unfolding as we expected: no technical problems on Friday and good free practice today. It’s comforting to see that bit-by-bit we’re improving our performance and pulling in the best. There’s still work to be done but we’re on the right track. We made the right diagnosis and put the right plan in place and we’re beginning to reap the fruits of our approach."

At your level how can you contribute to the comeback to the front made by the ING Renault F1 Team?

"As I always say a racing car’s a package and it’s impossible to separate engine and chassis. At our level our aim is to supply an engine that meets the requirements of the chassis team: namely, one that’s quick and reliable. We find the present engine regulations are a bit frustrating; we’d also like to search for more power to get back to the front, but development is virtually impossible in that area."

Do you think that the performances of the V8s are very close this year?

"It’s always difficult to measure engine performance as it’s associated with a chassis. What’s more, everybody’s certainly decided to use the V8 in the same way; 2007 is the second year with the V8s and everybody had time to carry out a few modifications before the date of the freeze decided by the FIA. The result is certainly very similar performances."
