Kubica looking forward to Nürbürgring
This weekend sees BMW Sauber F1 Team driver, Robert Kubica, contesting his first Formula One Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. However, the 5.148-kilometre circuit is far from being virgin territory for the Pole.
"I have practically been racing at the circuit every year since 2001, and because of this I know it fairly well," says Kubica. "I have to be honest and say I don't find the circuit spectacular. This will be my first grand prix there, but I have driven on the old circuit, when the first corner was a chicane."
Last year Robert was able to experience the Nürburgring as a Formula One driver for the first time when he participated in both Friday practice sessions with the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Third fastest in the first session gave notice of his potential.
Since then much has changed. The BMW Sauber F1 Team has established itself as a top-three Formula One team, and the European Grand Prix is the highlight of the season for German fans. Robert adds: "When we go to the Nürburgring this will be the only Grand Prix in Germany this year. I am sure there will be a big crowd, with a lot of the people being fans of our team. I think it will be a good weekend and maybe after that my feelings for the track will change."
