Still a bit more work to do - Fisico

The ING Renault F1 Team’s Italian driver, Giancarlo Fisichella talks about his Friday at the Nürburgring. According to the Roman, the team is getting closer and closer to the front-runners and he's confident that they can still catch BMW and overhaul them in the Championship.

Giancarlo, how did the day go?

"It was the usual kind of Friday. Things were a bit difficult this morning and then it went much better in the afternoon. The set-up was a big improvement and we were closer the front-runners. Finally, the rain didn’t really upset our programme too much. As always, some teams were playing with the fuel levels and you can’t really take their positions very seriously. We’re close to the BMWs even if we’re maybe a tad slower. We’ve still got work to do this evening."

What information did you get about the tyres?

"The soft compound seems to be a lot quicker over the first lap. The track, though, was very green today so we’ll have to check all that tomorrow."

BMW has increased its lead over Renault in the last few races: are you still confident?

"Yes, we can catch them and overhaul them in the championship. We used a new front wing this morning and it’s got real potential. It creates a very different balance and we have to adapt to it. The car’s still progressing and you can see it in the times. The gap between Ferrari and McLaren and ourselves has shrunk since the first race of the season."
