Symonds proud of his team

In the Renault podcast, the teams' Chief of Engineering, Pat Symonds, declared that he is very proud of the way his team got the most out of the R27. Symonds is convinced that the French team will be among the front-runners again in 2008.

Symonds said: “I can take no end of positives from this year even though it has been an incredibly disappointing year. I've learnt so many new things, lots of new procedures that we have had to do to get ourselves out of the trouble that we are in. I'm very proud of the fact that we made the best of what we had. We finished third in the championship and a lot of people would dream of doing that."

Symonds believes that after a difficult season, Renault will again fight for the title in 2008. “These guys have been champions for the last two years, and okay they didn't do it this year, but they can do it again.”

Renault has been working on the R28 since this summer and the Chief Engineering believes that the team will benefit from this next season: “We really haven't touched our car since Monza. Just as we have seen when we have had to fight to the end, you're putting resources into your current car that actually you'd like to put into next year's car. We pulled those resources off in August and have since been working flat out on the new car. Those guys have had to try and juggle both projects. So yes it does make a difference, but one in our favour.”
