F1 is now much more popular in Poland - Kubica

Since Robert Kubica has been enjoying success with the BMW Sauber F1 Team, he has witnessed a constant increase in both his popularity, and that of Formula One in his homeland of Poland. The 23-year-old welcomes this development.

Despite his young age, Robert is already one of Poland's most popular sports stars. However, the Polish public only started to recognise his performances on the track when he made his Formula One debut at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. "I might have been annoyed, but I understood why we had this problem", says Kubica. "Before I started in Formula One there was very little interest in the sport in Poland, and I am sure this would be the same in any country. Formula One is now much more popular in Poland."

The enormous increase in the number of Polish Formula One spectators, both on television and at the circuits, is proof of this rise in popularity. "Not only am I very happy to see the knowledge increase, but also the number of fans coming to the races, enjoying the sport and crossing their fingers for me", comments Robert. "I also think a sign of just how popular Formula One is can be seen in the number of fans who came to see me in Warsaw in the BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park."
