Efficiency despite tight schedule - Theissen

By on

Mario Theissen has been a BMW Motorsport Director since 1999, and has held this role alone since October 2003. The German speaks about his typical working day, as well as his personal and professional outlooks.

Theissen's daily routine is densely packed, and allows him very little spare time. As BMW Motorsport Director, Theissen must be kept informed of any internal or external events that affect BMW's commitment to motor sport. "I have meetings, work through transactions, or drop in on people throughout the company. I only spend about a third of the day at my desk", says Theissen. When it comes to personal time management, the past few years have been a learning process for the German: "The tight time constraints mean that I have become more efficient than I was 20 years ago."

Despite his demanding and successful work as BMW Motorsport Director, Theissen still dares to look beyond his own backyard every so often, and already has plans for his future. "I can imagine there will come a time when I say to myself, 'it is time for me to do something different'", says the 56-year-old. "I would like to teach students, or travel. And read. At the moment, all I ever read is material for my job."
