They might've shortened the drs zone?
They did that ahead of the race last year in Bahrain. It only reduced the quali top speed by a couple of kph compared to testing.

It's wind. Big headwind into T1.
For 8 hours?

RB take inspiration from Merc, move the game along, and now we are treated to sob stories about the unfairness of the rules. They aren't better because of alien technology, they are literally using solutions pioneered by others (but executed poorly) to develop. It's called being better, understanding the regulations better, and pushing the boundaries. It's F1.
Honestly I think it's just reached a point of frustration at how there are hundreds of brilliant and smart people in this sport spanning across all the teams and for 3 seasons now only one team seem to have cracked it and know what to do. Just got to admire the work that RBR has done.

Was a headwind pretty much all day. Not that this sample size was collected over 8 hours. Most set their fastest time within a much shorter time frame when the track was fast.

I still think RB will be a decent bit faster but I also don't think today will be the day to prove it. Day 1 of testing is always wonky.

Please, I beg you... Start another thread, I even agree with you all but can we discuss the test here instead of how bad perez is?
I’m sick of hearing about it too. Be good to have actual testing chat in here.

It (championship race) never "started" to begin with.

I guess I could understand the frustration if RB had come out with an RB19B and pulled 5 tenths on the field. But they haven't, they've brought the most radical evolution of anyone and are reaping the rewards because they understand what they are doing. Meanwhile most of the other teams have been running around like headless chickens for three seasons, moving from one concept to another, seemingly not understanding what works and what doesn't. Then they converge on the RB19 concept in desperation. What do RB do? Do they bring some new alien technology to the table? No. They simply pick apart some of the best ideas of other teams (which they seemingly understand better than those teams) and create an amalgamation of good ideas that works instantly. It's not an issue of rules, it's an issue of one team knowing what the **** they are doing whilst the others have been trying to push square pegs through round holes.

The engineers at the other top teams might as well go home

Hi everybody, it's time for timing data.
Due to popular request, here is the link to the apparently "traditional" Google Sheet with all timing data for the whole day.
(Not sure if anybody else makes these as well by now)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Please do a bit of a sanity check when using the data. I'm a bit short on time and just quickly tried to bend my upload script into submission, persuaded google to use the correct data types and hope everything is good now.

Day 2 and Day 3 will be added to the currently empty worksheets.

The sheets for 2023 and 2022 are linked in the document as well, if you want to compare.

It should be possible to properly filter and sort all columns by drivers, lap times and so on.

And if you want, you might of course add the link to the opening post so it doesn't get lost as easily.

its the budget cap. teams have only a certain dollar amount to spend and 9 of them spend it to find out why their concept doesnt stack up to red bull. this leaves them hardly anything relatively speaking to actually push beyond. red bull simply moves the goalposts further every year since they only need to develop ontop of a winning model. everyone will just move in parallel every year unless theres a significant incentive for the lower teams to catch up such as a budget reduction or BoP against RB.

They have more windtunnel time. Put it this way, imagine a world where RB had the most windtunnel time...That would not be a way to close up the grid...As it stands it is the opposite, and it's up to the trailing teams to use that extra time to close up the gap.

Or a world where they didn't break the budget cap or have two teams that the Redbull Technology Centre work on.
