I didn’t realise just how well we qualified in Abu Dhabi 2020- with a bit of extra power now could we spring a mini surprise this weekend and get on the podium?
Nice livery btw!
Well, the slow speed stuff are gone and are replaced by medium speed corners. That should translate to being better for us, but who the hell knows what will happen at this point.mclaren111 wrote: ↑08 Dec 2021, 12:44
The track has been changed quite a bit... Not to sure what to expect...
One would expect that the elimination of the chicanes, which in theory should have cost the MCL35M some time may favor McLaren compared to what itself would have been able to do before… I don’t know if there is enough pace for a podium (that’s a big ask), but they should be in a position to mix it up at the front of the midfield… The long straights should favor the aero philosophy of the car and a couple of tricky sections are now gone.
In my opinion, they have all the same maps. They all have equal power.adrianjordan wrote: ↑08 Dec 2021, 18:02McLaren should be ringing up Merc asking for every ounce of power from the PU in the hopes of getting one of them ahead of Max lol
I always thought that the chicanes where McLaren strength a. Especially in Norris's, hands.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑08 Dec 2021, 17:09One would expect that the elimination of the chicanes, which in theory should have cost the MCL35M some time may favor McLaren compared to what itself would have been able to do before… I don’t know if there is enough pace for a podium (that’s a big ask), but they should be in a position to mix it up at the front of the midfield… The long straights should favor the aero philosophy of the car and a couple of tricky sections are now gone.
Been said that above, at the end it is all about the tires… McLaren’s qualifying in 2020 was helped because they got the hyper soft tires (C5’s) to perform when it mattered… Nevertheless ended finishing more than 40 seconds behind Albon in 4th by the end of the race
The problem is the section, not the chicane itself… For example in the first sector, after the first chicane, there was a 180 degree turn, which is front limited and something the car didn’t like, especially at low speed… With the previous chicane gone the speed should be higher coming into the corner and they should lose less time there (although, sometime will still be lost against those with an strong front end)… It’s a similar situation with the section after the second straight, which was also slow and favored a good front end.diffuser wrote: ↑09 Dec 2021, 03:15I always thought that the chicanes where McLaren strength a. Agreed! Although, there is something about the front wings that really catches my eye… Will have to wait to see it on track, but under the lights, it should look fantasticmwillems wrote: ↑09 Dec 2021, 17:24I like it on the sidepods. I'm not so fussed about the front wings.
The engine cover looks gorgeous too.
It's pretty wild! I like how all the teams are so colourful now, unlike the mid-2010s when half the field seemed to be shades of grey.
