Max and Lewis clash and Lando wins..........That would be a dream ending to this season. How many points do we need to jump Ferrari??
Too much - 38,5

So we would need to get:

- 1. and 2. and one Ferrari in 8. and the other outside points
- 1. and 2. with one Ferrari in 9. and other in 10.
- 1. and 2. with fastest lap and one Ferrari in 8. and other in 10.
- 1. and 2. and Ferrari 9. and 10. with fastest lap
- 1. and 2. with one Ferrari 8. or 9. or 10. and other out of points
- 1. and 3. and one Ferrari in points on 10.
- 1. and 3. with a fastest lap and one Ferrari in 9. or 10.
- 1. and 3. with Ferrari in 10. with a fastest lap

So chances are very bleek, i might also made a mistake or missed some other oportunity - feel free to complain
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

You would basically need astronomical levels of luck to get 3rd from Ferrari at this point. Would just be nice to cap it off with a podium for Lando, but that seems very unlikely too. All that remains is P5 in the drivers championship with Lando. That would be a minor achievement.

minor?
It be pretty huge for the kid IMO. He has had a quiet second half of season for various reasons, but overall still a remarkable season for the lad

I meant a minor achievement in the scope of the team. The team doesn't gain anything whether Lando finishes 5th or 6th. But it would be a nice morale boost if their driver beat every realistic opponent.

For Lando though, yeah, it probably would mean something for him to finish in the best possible position with the car he had available.

I understand people's excitement, but for me personally, next year makes me anxious more than anything. It's just that ever since 2014, I have slowly lost hope in this team. These last two years rekindled the hope. Especially this year. After all that time, we were finally on the top step of the podium again, but not only that, the car that came out of the factory has been (generally) at a decent level of competitiveness. Yes, we lost a bit of the "oomph" this second last of the season, but with stable regulations I would have been more confident in the team taking the next step for 2022.

But next season we are going into a blank slate. Yes, it's an opportunity to take a bigger bite out of the advantage from the teams in front, but there's a chance we might go back to where we were not so long ago. And the thought of that happening is "troubling".

Call it ptsd from the 2013-2018 period, but until the team "proves me wrong" on track next season, I will be nothing but anxious for our future.

The only thing that gives me some hope is the fact that the team is not what it was a couple of years ago. The structure is better, but more importantly, better people are now in charge of that structure. I guess we just have to trust those people and see what awaits us next season.

I feel like whatever "tone" is set next year, will probably remain the "norm" for at least the first couple of years of these new regulations. If we are competitive, chances are we will keep that competitiveness for a while. But if we are not competitive, then we will probably have to stay in the midfield for a couple more years.

I think the biggest step for McLaren was as an organization, the behind the scenes stuff. The stuff you don't see that's going to set the foundation for their plans. The only reason they slipped behind Ferrari was the engine upgrade, and the lack of chassis development in the second half of the season. While they were developing the car they had very good relative performance, once they stopped and focused on next year, they kind of plateaued a bit. This is a good sign though, it shows that when they commit themselves to the project, and have good direction, they can still turn out a good car. In a way this year was validation for everything they've been building because while they worked on it they showed good results.

This means that even if next year's car isn't top 3 right away, they have enough talent and understanding in their organization to get there eventually, as long as they commit to developing the car.

"This team" isn't the 2014 team. Very different. Don't be afraid to have some renewed hope.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

I believe that Mercedes dominance is on the wane. Formula one is cyclical, a dream team of managers, aero specialists and engineers coalesce around an inspirational person. This could be a team owner, chief designer or driver. This dream team go on to achieve great things and attract the best in their field who want to be part of the success. Eventually other teams poach key members of the the dream team and a new dream team begins its journey to greatness. Recently money has influenced the natural cycle and the biggest budgets secured the best designers and engineers etc.

The new budget cap could return things to a more cyclical pattern with fresh new designers and engineers able to compete with the super salaried old guard at the previous big spenders. Being able to just throw more resources at a problem than your rivals will no longer be possible and cohesive teams with strong core management structure will win out.

I personally believe McLaren have put in place just such a cohesive structure and hope that this pays dividends in the next few years, or this could just be my Mclaren fanboyism colouring my views. I think Danny Ric has seen this and positioned himself just like Lewis did when he went to Mercedes add to that Lando and the future is bright, the future is Papaya....

Great job by Lando. I hope we can end this season with 1 final podium tomorrow.

On another note, I saw a video today in which our drivers are pushing fans to take a vaccin. I do not want to ramble up a Covid discussion here, as I believe it has no place in sports. But I do want to express my anger in the team (and whole of F1) for involving themselves in a discussion they have no part in.

Do not expose me to a political agenda while I am trying to enjoy my time watching sports, escaping from the daily stress of the real world and the anxiety that comes with it.

Amen Brother... Enough is Enough...

Lando could jump Lewis or even both Lewis and Max at the start- that would really cause some tension to the big two!

I would say whatever happens it was a productive year. Good Luck to Lando and Daniel and to give it their all and let's finish with a last good result to say goodbye to 2021 and this era rules. Then I wish for 2022 to be the start of a new Mclaren Era.

It's also a great final race for the Legend Kimi Raikkonen a great Mclaren driver and the great unfairness not to have captured more than 1 championship. I am gonna miss him.

I’ve loved seeing Landos development over the last couple of years. He’s had the fortune of Sainz who I absolutely rate as a thinking man’s driver. Knowing how to set up the car. Landos raw talent has always been undeniable but he has developed so so much. This year he has stepped in every single department, race craft/speed/leadership and bite whilst maintaining his likeable characteristics.

Ric has a real job on his hands to get on terms with him. Let’s hope for all our sakes he gets his act together in 2022 and they both get a car deserving of their talent

Let's enjoy the race no matter the result. I am sure we are gonna have tensions between Hamilton and Verstappen.
