Yeah I don't see Lewis as the type to allow this to go on like this in court. I wonder how much he has a say about that though. Maybe Mercedes would want to pursue the case just to squeeze out some more benefits from the FIA so Lewis will be ordered to stay quiet.

Hamilton is a clever guy, he doesn't want to win on court, and he has the strengh to be on other tough, 2022 for instance.
The guy already has 7 titles, and a contract for future year. I'm absolutely sure he is not the one pushing for this Mercedes crazyness, even if he feel that he has been robbed the title

I get that we are in uncharted waters but why is it crazy to appeal. I don’t think they should be the ones backing down for the sake of the sport as much as Redbull hand it back to save the sport.

Just think back (before my time) Moss defended his title rival and lost a championship, so Max could do the same. It will never happen now, not even the fans can put differences aside for the sport we all love.

Moss was true champion and is remembered as such even without the trophy. Max will have this championship forever tainted because of the actions of the RD.

The chatter seems to be he's not coming back. It's going to be framed as he has chosen not to resume the role in 2022, but the reality is the role is also not being offered to him. To say the leadership of the FIA are very unhappy he's exposed them to this situation would be an understatement, which is why they didn't defend him in their statement.

I also hope this brings about big changes and it’s not just Masi going but that’s the start. We need permanent race stewards, with training and oversight of the decisions made to ensure consistency.
Lewis didn’t want the title and has in my opinion come out of this with a reputation of a true statesman of F1, a far cry from the Lewis of 2011 or even 2016. Winning the appeal would have been a loss and only practical if you didn’t want to stay in the sport.

Lewis and Mercedes leave with the moral high ground. I think that counts more than eight championships.

I think that was the right way to go. Mercedes took the high road, while still holding the FIA responsible to fixing the mess for future races.
