Mercedes W13 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Maybe the FIA gave all teams a mock-up model of the car to show off their new livery. Teams probably wouldn't be willing to show off their actual car until testing. If not I'd be very interested as to why they would make a mock-up of a car they arent gonna use

Its a commercial show car, Merc have bought in. Its based on a set of late ( but not up to date) 2022 regulations. Other teams, sponsors and even F1 have bought them.

Listen, Scarbs. I don't know who you think you are, but I don't appreciate you bursting our bubbles.

In all seriousness, it seemed as such. I love the look, just wish they were about 15-20% smaller.

Just question what is that material Tire made off? Strange. I would expect some sort off plastic if thats is just mockup. 3D printed i suppose.

It's wrapped in cling-film. Keeps the rubber from drying out.

These cars have just grown ugly big. I agree, they should be smaller. I love those 2000s machines. Elegant and agile. We may never go that small, but they should be smaller by 20-25%.

Ahh it was weird. Really seems as "repair" kit for Inner tube. THX

Amateur racers typically do this as it can be weeks between races. Also, when you use tire compound "dope" (ie: chemical softener), you wrap them after applying.

I'm glad to know this is just a generic car. Seeing the picture from Mercedes and the back to the future video from Alpha Tauri got me worried it would just be a spec series this year.

This year will the closest to a spec series F1 has ever been (I think). The aero rules are so much tighter now. A lot of it appears to have been written to stop the teams doing things with vortices which generally create a lot of turbulent air for cars behind.
