I understand they were not allowed to compensate for the extra weight compared to their ICE counterparts.

So I could be possible that they tried to keep the weight of the chassis and suspension down, to prevent to much weigh increase of the car. Lighter parts are often less durable.

From reading the report (Carlos Sainz quoted), it seems that Audi thought that they were offered an advantage that was rescinded ‘just before’ the event started.
Paris-Dakar was hard on Peugeot when they first entered (as a manufacturer), historically P-D has been unforgiving.

There is glaring controversy in this Dakar . Apparently the organizers gave confusing directions in the roadbook given to the teams . This caused the Audis of Sainz and Ekstrom to be lost . Latest news is Audi wont lodge a protest. Some people have put forward the theory that Qatari driver Al Attiyah paid the organizers so that his main rivals would be seriously hampered. lol

What do you think is the correct way forwards? Hydrogen? I know Toyota is still researching that a lot.

I prefer Biofuels... Waste - Food & Garden the most obvious... Excess Crops etc...

What are the pollutants like from bio-fuels? It's still burning fuel at the end of the day.

The problem at the moment is production of biofuels needs to reduce their carbon footprint...

Batteries are heavy. Race cars are power:weight dependant.

Anyone know if those race-machines carrying large 'hi-intensity'
batteries have an onboard/integrated fire-suppression system?

What if the "unexpected" foreign object damage caused a +ve
feeback loop to battery systems resulting in a major Li-driven
(& also 'hi-intensity') fire?

Is the crew expected to eject, then either wield a toxic gas/foam
fire supressant as extemporised 'hands on' fire-fighters, or 'just break
out the marshmallows' & let the whole defective device: 'Burn baby burn'?
