The air on top of the side pods is being directed to the beam wing. However, I would expect the air from the louvers to be of low energy and disruptive to the flow. I wondered how they are conditioning it and making it better than a canon exit.

This may be a stupid question, I'm not an aerodynamicist after all... but the shape of the sidepods perplex me. Thinking about when it rains, will water accumulation be an issue causing some degree of drag as the air whisks away the rain?

Water accumulation won’t occur as long as they don’t have any “dead spots”.

The side pods ingest a lot of water, and have since day 1 of their use.

To me its ominous. I can't remember a radical design becoming successful since I've been watching F1.
Brawn was a radical design, but I get your point.

In the case of Ferrari IMO they can quite easily change the shape of sidepods and produce something along the lines of McLaren.

Well, this is when you seek an FIA approved hole going through to the floor so that the water can be drained. There might be an extra duct or two connecting to said drain and joining to the diffuser, just so, you know can't have the thing vapour locking and all that. :mrgreen:

Not conviced about new Ferrari's sides.

Aston seems have more space to flow the air from the front to the rear by the "slim zone" beneath radiators

Binotto revealed that the double splitter was immediately positively evaluated and installed on the F1-75 after seeing it on the Aston Martin AMR22

Something odd with the nose cone.

It seems to be built by two sections!

You can clearly see the junction between the chassis front bulkhead and the 'classic' nose cone between race number 55 and Shell logo and then a second junction, which goes down the entire section, between the Pirelli and Mahle logos, with three bolt heads visible, too, painted in red. Wonder what's its purpose...

And what about air flow over the top? McLaren has no undercut at all. Obviously, there are multiple ways to solve the riddle.

We can't tell that from photos how concentrated the air is in particular areas.
