McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is that a camera on the floor or something permanent?

Not sure its too low res to make out, but there sure is a lot of floor real estate in the coke bottle region, that cover that they had on the studio car obscured things quite a bit.

Anyone any idea why the Velo sponsor is missing?

Looks nice with the big colourful sidepod but nevertheless.

Rest of the car looks fairly unchanged.
Interesting to see if any floor separators are visible on the floor entrance.

They remove the sponsor for filming - later on they can either tape it on or digitally add it on.

Am I going crazy or is there still a cover in the floor in that shot?

Good chance, just like Mission Winnow during the past few years, a lot of countries prevent any type of advertising of tobacco companies, including made up things and stuff like vaping products. Now they have images that they can use in those countries.

Mirror arms are also much less shapely than the launch car.

Front wing maybe leaning towards Ferrari shape?

I think you're right on both accounts.

I think we will have to wait a bit more for the "real" car to appear. I think this is just not it :D

Yes, you could see those in the render

People tend to equal complexity with speed. Some McLarens of previous years were called underdeveloped yet they were pretty quick. I'd much prefer if the car was simple (and quick) rather than complex and quick.
