Russian GP/Mazepin In Jeopardy now???

Post

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, and may be geopolitical in nature.

Im wondering now what will be the resolve of the FIA and F1 will be tested with sanctions coming on Russia now they have done what they have done, and will probably do in Ukraine.

Will Biden ban any US company based at home and abroad from investing in and taking investment from Russia, also preventing US companies from going to Russia. It may also make some difficult nights ahead at Haas as well, with Mazepin bing chucked out of F1 via the White House. Haas may need to get a driver quick. Like really quick, like almost this week quick.

Im wondering what others think on this right now? No more Sochi and Mazepin? Time for Istanbul again with Piastri or someone else with funding to go to Haas? Haas also having to do a new livery as well?

Could sporting sanctions come from political leaders against Russia???

It will be incredibly hard to discuss anything related to this without going against the no politics rule.

That would be awful, we need 22 cars on grid

Mazepin will still drive. As a private citizen, unless there is direct evidence against him, then the US government will have no reason to restrict his liberties.

Sochi will probably be off though.

They won’t restrict Mazepin, but if his sponsers are financially blocked, they cannot pay for his drive.

There's no bussiness being conducted, and the rules seems to be from NATO towards Russia, not the other way around.

There's a whole complicated political structure surrounding it, but unless F1 suddenly actually starts caring about the wellbeing of countries and its citizens, the Russian GP isn't under threat.

True.

The incumbent saudi 'president' had a journalist literally butchered inside an embassy, and not many people had 2nd thoughts about holding a gp there.

According to this Turkey will probably replace the Russian gp.

Mazepin is fine...the race in Sochi on the other hand.

I know F1 had still races in countries that were at war or had military conflict nearby but is this the first time that's happened on the European continent?

It would be hard to believe the calculations at the FIA don't change at least somewhat because of that.
