BMW Sauber F1.09

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Small differences in front wing.

Nice find. The changes that I can see are as follows:

* Fences at the end of the standard middle part of the wing.
* Profile of the 1st element drops down after the second fence before rising again.
* Top of the end plates has a hemispherical cutout.
* End plate also has a lip around the top edge.
* The edge of the second and third elements next to the end plates look slightly less curled.
* 2nd and 3rd elements of the wing appear to be cut at a less diagonal angle (might be the angle of the photo though).

Anyone see anything else?

Sponsors?

I think all this aero changes, minus the hemispherical cutout at the top of the endplates, were already there at the last test.

According to this article, http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74444 , on Autosport. BMW Sauber are trying to make their car lighter so that Kubica can have KERS.
Assuming the cars are already designed to be as light as possible so they can play around with ballast more. Where's the extra weight loss going to come from?

With Red Bull thinking of changing engine supplier to that of Mercedes next year. I noticed that no-other team is using a BMW engine (except BMW-Sauber themselves) every other manufacturer has a customer engine deal, Why not BMW?

I think that is only possible if Mercedes stop supplying one of the teams they already have a deal with. They stated that supplying three teams was the most they capacity could manage (I think it was around the time of the Brawn-Mercedes announcement, but I don't have a link)

This year FIA rules limiting each manufacturer to working with just two teams and in case of Brawn this was special dispensation.

I believe that BMW's affair with Williams soured them as far as supplying engines to a second party. BMW and Williams had lost faith in each other, and a divorce was inevitable. BMW decided to go their own way, entirely. And that's probably their mentality at this time, that they will do the entire task on their own, with no one else involved. And this mentality probably makes them unapproachable by other teams. And right now, BMW is solely focused on producing results for their team. Supplying engines to a third party at this time would likely be a distraction.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

Ah, I see. Thanks Dave :)

From memory during a Thursday press conferance either last year or the year before Mario Theisen said they were ready to supply another team with engines if they were approached.
