F1 1993 and 1992 Frontal Distrubution

Post

Does anyone know what the frontal weight for 1992 F1 car and 1993 car?.

They had major change, going from tyres 3700mm rear's in 1992 to 3300mm rear's in 1993.

If you calculate it, for 1992 It's 40%, and 1993 it's 43%. I calculated 2020 regulation they seem follow this same formula.

0.455 and 0.535 front and rear weight
348.0mm +/-0.5mm) front; 16.9” (429.3mm (Tyre widths)

I just wonder what they used for racing, qualifying in 1992 and 1993. If you think about it, if they went with the same idea, frontal in 1993 would of had more weight.

Thanks

I have read a technical paper from 1992 and the Williams. The front to rear weight distribution was 40% front 60% rear. This more or less stayed "typical"(40/41 % front) untill 1995/1996 when some teams lengthened the wheelbase and had a weigt distribution of 41-42% front. When the grooved tyres were introduced more weight got transfered(in the form of ballast) to the front and some teams indeed more weight on the front(rumours said 53% front). McLaren and Ferrari were at the forefront in that regard. There are videos of the early 00s with the F2002 on a crane with the front "diving".

This makes sense, I've found 40% tends to give the best lap times.
