Any reported problems? They haven't run much this afternoon.

They haven't run much all day actually. They are last in terms of lap count if you exclude the teams which had some issues (Alfa and Haas)

Norris stopped at end of pitlane 30 min ago, he was recovered quickly .... and 72 laps are not to bad for day 1 and I'm sure there will be still to come.

The car looks good enough from the get go. Considering it's very early to say where do you think McLaren stands?

Norris takes top spot
Sure enough, we are seeing a few faster times. After Alonso's effort, Hamilton also improved his time - but it's the McLaren of Norris that's gone fastest on all on a 1m19.951s on C4s. That's the first sub-1m20s lap we've seen so far.
To be taken with a pinch of salt but nice to see nonetheless

Does his name start with "mark" and end with "o"?

Would you believe me if I would say that apart from Helmut Marko I know not any other Marko?

In recent years, the more technical journalists (like Mark Hughes) have speculated that McLaren run around mid-fuel levels (60kg IIRC) and have the engine turned down. If that's how the team choose to go testing, why change this year? If so, being around the top of the timesheets not a bad thing (though if we tire correct McLaren are still behind Ferrari).

Sure, being around the top of the timesheets doesn't mean much at this stage of testing, but it's (obviously) much better than being at the bottom of the timesheets!

I do not understand those people who say that today there was little mileage. The team has been working on aero and it doesn't really involve a lot of laps.

So, Norris fastest on day 1, with a 1.19.5 on C4. One compound softer than most others, who were all above the 1 min 20 mark. Not much you can tell from it, besides that it's better to be on top of the timesheets than on the bottom half when you're running a softer compound.

I think Lando is still on top even if you take the tyre difference between C3 and C4.

Solid amount of laps on the board, but no need to compare to others. McLaren have always been methodical to their testing approach and it's put them in good steading the past few years. It is satisfying seeing Lando top the charts, but the most appeasing fact from the day is reports of how sharp the McLaren appears on turn in.

I checked the speed traps and they were equal to Leclerc's (2kmh down on s3 actually).

So I guess they didn't push the engine for that lap.
