McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

With the W13 now sprouting testing gills, is the MCL36 (and maybe RB18?) the only car(s) to not even test gills so far?
I don't believe we have seen any cooling gills on the Williams either
Does AT use gills? They have a big cooling exit as well.

Also interesting that they believe the teams that ran the shakedown in the rain are on the back foot -- justifies McLaren's decision to wait until sunny Barcelona, even if late

Took this from autosport. It is encouraging to see that they haven't pushed the power unit hard yet. Just gathering data.

Here are the speed trap figures (kph) from this morning:

Gasly 326
Schumacher 323
Albon 317
Perez 316
Bottas 315
Sainz 313
Stroll 312
Ricciardo 309
Hamilton 309
Ocon 296

Obviously we can't account for speeds/loads here but McLaren seems notably softer or "less flat" on the rear at T9

Just because teams are testing them doesn't mean they'll need them for every race. Most likely they're just seeing what effects they'll have on cooling and aero when they do end up using them for the warmer races.

Ferrari being good in S3 shouldn't be a surprise just given its design. Theoretically it should have the lowest CoG on the grid in my opinion.

125 laps on the second day, no major mechanical issues on the car… Reliability seems to be on point, which is great for the start of the season.

A lot of talk about porpoising with the new cars (a trait that McLaren seems not to be suffering from)… Just in case some members are not checking every post in the site, this is how it looks:

another good day i think, lots of laps, no apparent problems and always around the top, the top teams can easily do 18 or high 17 i think
