Excuse this persons attempt at a meme, but this is the first footage of cars riding high kerbs I’ve seen. I think we can all agree this doesn’t look positive for the Ferrari. I’ve heard several reports (and it’s commented above) that Ferrari needs to run much stiffer than others due to porpoising. A bit concerning I suppose if they’re running stiff to mitigate porpoising AND still experiencing it.

Does anyone have any footage of other cars riding these kerbs?

I've noticed that jumping when F1-75 was in Fiorano but I thought it was because of bad track surface and curbs

Thanks for answering @JPBD1990 and @Andi76. I also hope that porpoising isn't as big of an issue really, as it is made out to be. Also hoping one of Rory's final works beat Newey once again :wink: , gonna be hard for us cuz the RB 18 looks very good too.

Very noticeable here how they tried to lower the roll hoop inlet as much as possible. Half of it is obscured by the driver's head

Also how much the end of the floor, after the little gap they opened up on day 3, is flexed down. Rumours that teams Saw mclaren’s floor flexing down and want it banned. Tbh, I’d be surprised if they weren’t all flexing as much as is humanly possibly

Ferrari was running their suspension very hard from the first second. I think they already were aware that porpoising will be a bigger problem than most others thought it will be. Also it was said that Mercedes and Williams having the biggest problems with porpoising. Ferrari was one of the less affected teams. At least thats what i have heard. All the teams will probably run with suspensions as stiff as Ferrari in Bahrain.

Even if Rory had some influence and i see a lot of his signature, maybe even the overall concept - you cannot say its his car. But it indeed adds some excitement, knowing there is a car with some input from Rory. But lets not exaggerate it - Rory is an adviser, working 600 hours from Phuket, Newey probably 2400 in the factory as Chief Technical Officer...but i know what you mean.

Personally i think Red Bull and Ferrari will be the two fastest cars, with maybe an advantage for Ferrari, as the Red Bull has a bigger problem with the maximum weight. But its too early to say anything. But since Ross Brawn said he is impressed what Ferrari has done - and Ross still and obviously has pretty good contacts at Ferrari- i am extremely confident about Ferraris performance in 2022!

So I was thinking about porpoising, and I'm still not convinced that its a small issue. I feel it has the potential to be a safety concern even.
The above video shows us how stiff the teams are running their suspensions. I also saw a few slow-mo clips of the cars porpoising and it looks to me like the sudden bounce (while porpoising) almost throws the car upwards for a second, before the flow attaches and the downforce catches it. I think thats a big concern because the sudden weight transfer upwards directly opposes the downforce on the car and that loss of df for even a millisecond could have big consequences at some tracks. Like for example imagine copse at silverstone or eau-rouge at Spa or even the S-curves at suzuka. Teams would likely run at the limit irrespective of whether they think they've solved the problem or not. And an upward bounce like that feels like a potential Verstappen-like crash at copse, without hamilton being on the inside.

Why should FIA raise the maximum weight to 800KG? And then punish those who produced a car below the agreed weight?
Teams had one extra year to get their acts together.

Development was frozen for all of 2020 IIRC so the extra year didn't really materialize. I would still agree that they shouldn't raise the minimum weight.
