McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

looks the same, i think theyl introduce updates only later in the test, the baseline established in barcelona they will want to verify here also first im sure and then gradually introduce updates to make sure each one works as expected

Upgrades are coming for the race. That's the only confirmed date we have from James Key.

If they bring stuff for the test, that's a bonus.

The Mercedes render doesn't represent the actual car

I was about to do the same based on this image,
where the RB18 roll hoop seems extremely far back. Until I realized that small differences in perspective have a huge influence on apparent position. (see e.g. how close the Mercedes Halo seems to be to the front wheel)

I have not seen one comparison picture here that is not worthless because of the fact that different angles where used.

If I recall correctly, James Key said the upgrade package was planned for the race, not for this test. Which would mean new stuff will come next week.

I don't think they will bring anything major on the test itself.
Parts will actually arrive during testing… They are probably doing baseline runs on the morning of day one and bolting new parts from that point on to determine if the upgrades are bringing the expected performance.

It's a camera, was on the car for Barcelona filming
No it is a sensor, asked the team, it is used to monitor the temperature of the tires + the bending of the floor through the tie rod attached to the floor

Was only on the car during the filming day though and I thought they couldn't take data reading during filming days, do you have the source for that information?
