One interesting observation based on the lap times data, although we were led to beleive that this year tyres will be durable and allow for racing, the data suggests big tyre wear on most compunds. Hopeful this isnt the case as i dont want to see the same formula where everyone is saving tyres and driving slowly.

Keep in mind C3 is the softest tire on this track and that typically GP is at night. The hot temperature during the day practically melts the tires. Then add the sand and the lack of setup from cars with all that sliding around and locking and it's a recipe to churn through tires in a few laps.

Looking at Hamilton's graph, it looks like he's driving to the same laptime whatever the compound.

If anyone is interested then here is a link to Perez's times from yesterday for a similar run.

Why are the commentators talking about mechanics running around, when nothing such is visible and the drivers can start their own car via the powerful electric motor attached to the ICE?

Don't know why they're talking about people running around, but they do have access to many more feeds that just the main broadcast one (plus they can look out of the window into the pitlane). But previously, not all the cars could be started using the MGU.

I'm really disappointed by the laptimes so far. They don't seem much faster than the 2014 cars and they behave like boats on the slow corners.

It's testing, the teams aren't going to show their true pace until it matters. A few might do glory runs on the last day to grab headlines. As for the cars going into the corners like boats ? Meh. If they able to race and overtake, I don't think people will care that much. Besides the drivers are still learning how to get the best out of these cars so that may improve over time.

The fastest lap in day 1 testing last year was 1:30.6. Yesterday Gasly set a 1:33.9. That's 3 seconds slower.

30+ minute discussion with Pat Symonds on the 22 reg interpretations.
Includes cars on track on split screen.
Conscious though that this might not be available to all countries. Sorry.
Highlights:-
- Williams floor change on view
- Ferrari side pod depression was an option evaluated
- Porpoising solutions readily available in LMP1 so should not be an issue for the teams to fix
- Ferrari gets dropped off it's trolley jacks! :wtf:

We knew going into 2022 that car performance would drop to 2017 levels. Why are people so shocked?? What were the 2017 testing tines???

Last year they were using cars with regulations that were well understood, this year they are testing a new set of regulations. Being 3 seconds off last year's testing pace isn't bad, considering the teething troubles teams are having with Porpoising etc. We may see some faster times on the final day. But as ever the true pace of these cars will become evident in Qualifying and the Race. Which we haven't got long to wait for.
