McLaren believe Daniel Ricciardo will be fit for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix after being hit with COVID-19 - but his absence could offer a shock opportunity for the latest Australian motor racing star Oscar Piastri.
Alpine have offered their reserve driver Piastri, seen as one of Formula One's future luminaries, as a stand-in for McLaren.
We don't know. The only thing we have heard from Lando is that it is not a simple problem, hard to fix. That's all we know really. But that much was obvious anyway. If it was an easy fix they wouldn't have burned 3 days of testing because of it.
Yes. I think the brake issue is huge.
Not comparable. They didn't figure out what was wrong with the 2018 car until much deeper into the season. In fact, it's because of 2018 that most journalists have labeled McLaren's good test laps as glory runs. Because they ran quali sims with Alonso on the last day, got very close to Kimi, and then we started racing they were nowhere near the front.
No, it won’t be Piastri… Alpine has offered Piastri to McLaren, that doesn’t mean they have to use him… The most probable candidate would be Fittipaldidjos wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 00:24Oscar Piastri will step in for Daniel if he’s not fit to race next week:

They didn’t burn 3 days of testing, they still did a lot of the tests they needed to do… They missed on long runs, but they can do those in FP1 next week
Alpine have reached an agreement with Mclaren, should Daniel be unavailable.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 02:38No, it won’t be Piastri… Alpine has offered Piastri to McLaren, that doesn’t mean they have to use him… The most probable candidate would be Fittipaldidjos wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 00:24Oscar Piastri will step in for Daniel if he’s not fit to race next week:

Australian rising star Oscar Piastri is one step closer towards a dream Formula 1 debut, with the 20-year-old joining McLaren's pool of reserve drivers as an insurance policy if they require a stand-in.
Read their announcement… They have made him “available”… McLaren doesn’t have to use them… Is part of a pool of drivers that include Vandoorne, De Vries and Di Resta… McLaren has an agreement in place to share reserve drivers with Mercedes… If I’m not wrong, Fittipaldi is also available (and since he is the only one out of the pool that has actually driven these cars, he would be the logical choice).djos wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 02:47Alpine have reached an agreement with Mclaren, should Daniel be unavailable.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 02:38No, it won’t be Piastri… Alpine has offered Piastri to McLaren, that doesn’t mean they have to use him… The most probable candidate would be Fittipaldidjos wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 00:24Oscar Piastri will step in for Daniel if he’s not fit to race next week:
