Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Noble says they are different.

Good article on the floor differences.

Hamilton with a Z-cut floor, and GR with a straight-edged spec.

The front wing is adjustable and so is able to move. All teams' front wings will be doing the same thing.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Russell's floor is different

Not surprising. Running the two floors at the same time gives them back to back comparison data.
That photo shows the same floor as the others
The two cars are running different floors.

Hence why Lewis is bouncing and russel is not

Lewis is carrying testing equipment in his car so I wonder if that is contributing to his heavier bouncing. If not, well, then the new floor is not working!

Lewis was just holding at 280kph on the pit straight every lap as well. Potentially checking the porpoising again I assume.

I thought they were running them worst and best case - Lewis heavy with a steep rear wing and no DRS, George light and DRS everywhere.

I'm not convinced that this is a new floor. This is the old floor with the edge cut out. I expected to see an edge wing at least. So fingers crossed they come out with the real McCoy in the FP2 or FP3. [-o<

Does anyone have any videos of the W13 on the straight? It looks to me like at vMax the outboard ends of the FW are flexing downwards towards the track surface. On braking the FW is returning back to it's reference position.

Could be a trick of the camera eye so looking to validate this theory.

Your optimism is something to behold. I fully expect a podium finish. The rest i think they need a lot more time to fix the issue.

IMHO, there's no reason why Merc would wait so late to put their full spec car on the track.

I think we have to accept Merc is on the back foot maybe even for the opening few of races.

Hopefully you can see it:
But I also saw better videos on this forum. Maybe it was in the Winter Testing 2022 Thread.

It has been mentioned multiple times and it does (as do the others) ...
