Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It has been reported that Merc will revert to the old floor for FP2.

The Hamilton Z-cut floor did not deliver the desired results.

For this first race, Mercedes has no answer for the purpoising at all. Going to be a tough one to take. Surely in the race this will hurt them even more so?

Car looks horrible to drive. But I think the pace exists in the car if they can resolve it. Interesting that they went back to the old floor if that is true. Their cutout seems very different to what the other teams are running.

Honestly think they were correct that if another team manages to hook it up that they will be the 4th fastest team.

Could the car be suffering from Mercedes having reduced resource limits thanks to the rules? Other teams with obvious B-teams seem to be doing much better with both the A and B teams. Also, the teams with access to more resources thanks to the rules such as Alpine have done well with the rule change too.

Perhaps Mercedes have been forced to go down the route of evolving the W12-style car because they didn't have enough resource allocation under the rules to do a blank sheet design.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I personally don’t think so. I think them being too clever with it and making too much downforce is their problem. I suspect some correlation issues as well.

Perhaps so. What is looking likely is that they'll be lucky to get in to Q2 let alone trouble Q3 and the front of the grid. If either of them finishes Sunday with a point, it'll be surprising.

Well Red Bull had similar amount of resources and they look like they are doing fine. I don't think it's the concept of the sidepods, it's likely just figuring out how to get the floor to stop choking. It will be interesting to understand how the sidepod shape impacts floor choking though (if that was the case).

Russell didn't use DRS during his lap and only 6 tenths down.
This car isn't that bad guys, don't worry.

The replays of Lewis on the straight show the porpoising still looking pretty horrific, and his top speed is well down. But he and George are competitive in S2 so if they can solve that without losing too much the car can still be up there.

And still Merc have this splitted FW. Very good to see on TV
The front wing is adjustable and so is able to move. All teams' front wings will be doing the same thing.
Exactly, you can see ferraris doing the same thing on their FW cam

Russell's car looking much more stable than Lewis, what are they doing with Lewis's car?

His top speed was 307 km/h. No way that was without DRS.
