Its weird though, because the car looks good on track. They are just slow (at least today)

I think any optimism needs to be tempered.... the 2 main men aren’t confident- Lando not even sure about the season on the whole
Even though I do agree that optimism needs to be tempered… That’s quiet the stretch of interpretation about the interview, Lando never said anything about the season as a whole, his comment is:

“If it's not going to be good here, there are a lot of other tracks that are similar to Bahrain, so just as a package we've got to improve. We'll see what we can do tonight and approach it for tomorrow.”

“If” been one of the key words… And this is a development race, even if they start at the back this weekend, it doesn’t mean that they will struggle all season long.

The reality is that they probably still need to find the right setup for the tires to be in the operating window and that simply takes time, they aren’t that far off and most of the losses in time are clearly on the power sensitive portions of the track (the telemetry and sector times show that)… Unless the car is a drag monster or Mercedes has the weakest PU, the car itself doesn’t seem to be that far in terms of handling.

The one-million-dollar-question is whether mercedes’s engine is turned down or this is the max it can do

We gotta wait for tomorrow. Nobody can answer that question today.

But I gotta say, compared to last year, this hasn't been an exciting start to the season so far.

Not looking good at all in low-mid speed corners.

Looked at some data corner by corner and the car is consistently bottom half in those type of corners.

Ranking 9th and 10th in the last two corners actually. Compared to RedBull, McLaren lost almost 0.6s on those two corners alone ...

All I can say is let's wait for tomorrow to see where each team stands using all power available and then discuss the result. If tomorrow after qualification we struggle to enter Q3 then I will start to wonder what went wrong on the design.

More fuel? Is this from the long runs? Lando did quite a longer stint. Although, even that does not guarantee much.

We are definitely not at the best situation, but we need to wait untill tomorrow before running into any kind of conclusion.

Its from their fastest laps. And I can't say whether they are slow "on purpose" or not. But they are definitely slow.

There is no way that Aston Martin, Mercedes and Mclaren are down that much in the speed traps compared to Williams.
Williams are clearly flattering to deceive, whereas the other three are not.
It’s just illogical.

Maybe thats why it looks good. We are, at least for now, not able to push it to the limits.

I don't want to be pessimistic but go putting your ass for this year because the car is a real trap

"Close the gap" miles off. Well, that's that then. Mclaren will never be a top team again .

Way too slow getting the wind tunnel and sim sorted. Been saying 2 years to complete since 2018.

We were supposed to resolve the shithole performance I'm low mid speed. Seems are are rhe slowest in those areas. Will never win a wdc with that philosophy .

Hope I'm wrong, but things look terrible
